Herpes simplex virus infection, commonly referred to as herpes, can be caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) or herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). HSV-1 is transmitted mainly by mouth-to-mouth contact and causes infections in or around the mouth (cold sores). However, HSV-1 can also be transmitted to the genital area by oral-genital contact and cause genital herpes. HSV-2 is transmitted almost exclusively by genital contact during sexual intercourse and causes infections in the genital or anal area (genital herpes).<\/p>

Both labial and genital herpes infections are usually asymptomatic or go unnoticed, but may cause symptoms, such as vesicles or painful ulcers at the site of infection, which can range from mild to severe.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Herpes simplex virus 1 infection is a common disease. The virus enters the host through mucous membranes (typically saliva) or skin lesions, where it can cause cold sores, however, it can also cause genital herpes via oral-genital contact.<\/p>

The infection is usually asymptomatic, so most people with the infection are unable to notice it. When symptoms occur, lesions may be seen in and around the mouth, which previously produce a burning or tingling sensation. After the first infection, lesions may recur periodically, with the frequency varying between individuals. Genital herpes is characterized by genital or anal vesicles or ulcers.<\/p>

El VHS-2 se transmite mayormente durante las relaciones sexuales, donde existe contacto entre genitales, piel o fluidos de una persona infectada con herpes. La transmisi\u00f3n ocurre con frecuencia en ausencia de s\u00edntomas.<\/p>

A\u00fan cuando es poco com\u00fan, el virus puede transmitirse de la madre al reci\u00e9n nacido durante el parto y provocar herpes neonatal.<\/p>

La infecci\u00f3n por herpes genital normalmente es asintom\u00e1tica, o se presentan s\u00edntomas leves. Cuando llegan a presentarse los s\u00edntomas, la infecci\u00f3n viral se caracteriza por la presencia de ves\u00edculas o \u00falceras en los genitales y la regi\u00f3n anal, los cuales pueden estar acompa\u00f1ados de fiebre, dolor y adenopat\u00eda.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

No usar \u00f3vulos, cremas ni duchas vaginales por lo menos 24 horas antes.
No usar medicamentos t\u00f3picos en la zona a evaluar por lo menos 24 horas antes.
No tener relaciones sexuales 72 horas previas a la toma.
No realizar aseo \u00edntimo agresivo el d\u00eda de la toma.
En hombres, se indica no orinar al menos 2 hora antes de la toma uretral.
En caso de estar en tratamiento antibi\u00f3tico, esperar al menos 7 d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de terminarlo para tomar la muestra.<\/p>
