Coronaviruses
Coronaviruses, a genus of the Coronaviridae family, are enveloped viruses with a single-stranded RNA genome of positive polarity. There are three human coronaviruses: 229 E (HCoV 229 E), HCoV OC 43 and the SARS-associated severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS CoV), which includes both SARS virus and the group of betacoronaviruses that are mainly associated with rhinolophid bats throughout the Palearctic.
A new coronavirus pathogenic for humans has been identified, called COVID 19, member of the betacoronavirus group, which has similar symptomatology to MERS CoV SARS CoV and Influenza, so it is important to have a proper diagnosis.
Since important aspects of the epidemiology of the virus are not known, such as the modes of transmission or the incubation period, it is of vital importance to implement detection techniques that are specific and rapid in order to detect the spread to new territories or the presence in people who may have been exposed to the virus.
