Influenza is a contagious respiratory disease caused by the influenza A, B, H1N1 viruses, among others. Symptoms can range from mild to severe depending on the individual.
Influenza virus is transmitted by droplets of saliva containing the virus, which may fall into the nose or mouth of an uninfected person. It is also known that transmission can occur through contact with surfaces contaminated with saliva containing the virus.
The most common symptoms are fever and chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle pain, myalgia, fatigue, headache. Some people may experience symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.
